PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. Mr Frank Wbyte, of Pah Valley, Tane, is to leave shortly by the P. aa'd'O. steamer "Mamora," on a trip to the Old Country. The sale of work in connection -with the Methodist Church was opened in the Olympic Theatre this afternoon. A splendid array of fruit, fancy Roods, etc., are seen in the various stalls. The sale will close this evening. I understand that Mr Charles Beetham, of Mangatainoka, will reside at "Brancepeth;"' for twelve months during the absence of his brother. A runaway occurred in the Mam street, this afternoon, which resulted in a gig belonging to Mr Charles Avery being badly smashed, both shafts being broken off, and the front board and wings suffering considerable damage. It appears that at the Post Office Mrs Avery noticed that the bit was out of the horse's mouth, and when trying to adjust it, the liorse bolted and careered along the Main street, atriking one of the rails round the Borough Squares, breaking the shafts off, the horse getting free. Mr E. Clarke, who has been a resident of this town for many years, 1 was one of the successful applicants in the "Carrington" estate balloted at Carterton recently. The final for the "Colts" bowling trophy between Messrs J. Mills and H. Pearcey, will take place on |the local bowling green ou Saturday afternoon next. An interesting game is anticipated. * The football tournament between members of the Old Boys Club will take place on the Recreation Ground on Wednesday next, weather permitting. The Mangaramarama Co-operative Cheese Factory is doing exceptionally well this year. On the first of March the cheese manufactured equalled the output for the whole of last season, and so far every cheese made has been first grade. Splendid values are being received ■ at Home for each shipment sent, December and January returns just to hand, showing this Company's cheese to bring top market {prices in London. This must be . very gratifying , for j the Manager, Mr Lancaster, and the shareholders. The increased output | of this factory together with I Mangatainoka and Ballance factories, I shows the substantial progress the | cheese industry, has made in this I district. ' J
