BIDEFORD NOTES.

(From Ojr o.vn.;Correspondent). The Bideford School Picnic,' an event much looked forward to by the children aiid parents of the surrounding district, was held in a paddock kindly ient by Mr Falloon. Glorious weather conditions prevailed and considerably added to the success of the picnic, which was carried through to the complete enjoyment of everyone present. A sports programme, including running and jumping events, occupied the greater part of the day, when some very interesting contests were witnessed, some of the finishes being very exciting. The boys high jump deserves special mention as the boy who won that event cleared 4ft 6in, which should go very near constituting a record for a boy of little more than 14 years of age. During the afternoon a sumptuous repast was partaken of and when ample justice had been done to the excellent fare the school prizes in books and money were distributed to the successful puDils by Mr Carswell, the Chairman of the School Committee. Great credit is due to Mesdames Carswell and Falloon and the members of the School Committer, who worked so hard to ensure the success of the picnic. In the evening a most enjoyable social and dance was held in the Bideford Hall, and was greatly enjoyed by all present. During the evening songs and piano and violin selections were kindly rendered by Mr Grant, whose musical abilities are quite an acquisition to this district. The dance music was supplied by Misses Miller and Eagleton on the piano, and Messrs Grant and McGovern on the piano and violin. Mr H. Miller ably carried out the duties of M.C. A most enjoyable evening was concluded by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Mr J. Percy, Tividale, is having erected a large and commodious house on his property, and a large number of carpenters and other workmen are engaged on the work. It is expected that in a few weeks the building will be completed.
