FIRE IN WELLINGTON.
"By Telegraph—Presa Association. WELLINGTON, March 30. About one o'clock this morning , •while the wintry storm was sweeping iover the city, a fire broke out in a 'boarding-hou«e in Taranaki Place, ■owned by Mr T. W. Hislop and occupied by Mr William Brown, who had between thirty and forty boarders. The latter lost everything except the •scanty attire they escaped in. The building was destroyed, and much •damage was also done to John Rigg and Co.'a chocolate and confectionery factory. During the strenuous fight to present the fire demolishing the whole block in the heart of the city, several firemen received minor injuries. The boarding-house wa3 insured for £SOO in the Commercial Union, and .£SOO in the Liverpool, London and Globe. The contents were insured for £SOO in the New Zealand. Mr RiZg's premises were insured for .£1,250 in the Commercial Union and £2CO in the Standard, and the contents for £4OOO in various offices.
