"ALL FOR IRELAND" LEAGUE.
MR W. O'BRIEN RESIGNS FROM THE HOUSE. Received March 28, 4.45 p.m. LONDON, March 27. At a conference of the Nationalists of Cork last month, Mr William O'Brien, member for the city, presiding, it was decided to found, in the spirit of the broadest toleration, an "All For Ireland League," the aim being to unite Irishmen of all creeds and sections in a concentrated movement towards the obtaining of self-government for Ireland. The league will also promote other objects in which Irishmen are concerned. On Wednesday last a meeting of Nationalist members of Parliament condemned as inimical to the party and the Nationalist cause the "All for Ireland League." As the outcome of the resolution adopted by the Nationalist members of the House of Commons, Mr William O'Brien has resigned his seat.
Mr William O'Brien has always been a believer in internal peace |and national reconciliation as a necessary prelude'to national regeneration. And he has also believed that the Irish Land Act, the result of a common agreement between landlords and tenants, afforded a sure means of peaceably abolishing landlordism as a first step towards reconciliation. But others of the Nationalist party in the House of Commons, headed by Mr Dillon, have not taken his view, and have expressed the opinion that the burden of relieving the tenants of landlordism should be an Imperial one, and not be borne by the tenante.
