MASTERTON GOLF CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the Masterton Golf Club was held in the Courthouse, Masterton, yesterday afternoon. There was an attendance of about twenty-five members. including a number of ladies, ana u.e chair was occupied by Mr Donald Donald. | The Secretary read the report and balance-sheet, which was as follows: —"The committee have pleasure in submitting the annual report and balance-sheet for the past season. Receipts and expenditure: The receipts amount to £2ol' odd, and the expenditure to £420. The cost of buildng the new Club House (£275) acccounts for the greater portion of the expenditure. Other large items were—Upkeep of greens, etc., £65 odd; interest on loans, £35 odd. Membership: The membership now stands at 140, a slight decrease on the previous year, the increased subscription, no doubt, being the cause. Matches, etc.: The usual competitions were played during the season, and several inter-club matches also took place. Mr W. H. Booth won the Men's Championship, and Mrs G. C. Williams the Ladies' Championship. Thanks: The thanlo of the Club are due to those who kindly presented trophies for competition and to those who generously contributed towards furnishing the new Club iiouse. The coming season: The links are now in good playing order, the greens, under the careful management of the caretaker, Mr Lee, are looking extremely well. Arrangements are being made for the services of a "coach" for the early part of the season. Everything points to the season being a successful one." The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the members on the satisfactory position of the Club. In the last year the Club had had some heavy expenditure, notably in the erection of the new Club House on the links. Various important matters had been arranged, chief among which was the tenure of the links, which was now on a satisfactory basis. Mr Caselberg seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. The election of officers then took place and resulted as follow President, Mr H. G. Williams (reelected) ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs H. Holmes and H. H. Beetham (reelected) ; Captain, Mr W. H. Galwey; General Committee, Messrs W. P. James, A. B. Lawrence. A. R. Sclanaers, A. C. Major, W. H. Robieson and D. Caselberg; Hon. Secretary, Mr C. C. Cox; Hon. Treasurer, Mr N. D. hunting; Ladies' Captain, Mrs Henry Booth; Ladies' Committee, Mesdames W. P. James and J. B. Henry, and Miss E. Robieson; Ladies' Secretary, Miss J. Robieson. The opening day for the forthcoming season was fixed for April 17th. Mr A. Bewley forwarded his resignation as Treasurer of the Club, as he was shortly leaving the district. It was decided that a letter be forwarded to Mr Bewley expressing the Club's appreciation of his services. The Featherston Golf Club wrote in reference to the hoidng of a golf tournament at Easter. As the Masterton Club was the , senior team, the Featherston Club the wish that they would take action in the
matter. The letter was referred to the General Committee.
At a meeting of the General Committee held immediately ofter the general meeting, Messrs A. R. Sclanriers A. B. Lawrence and A. C. Major were elected a Match and Handicapping Committee, and Messrs W. P. James, A. B. Lawrence and C. C. Cox a Ground Committee.
In connection with a suggestion received Irom the Featherston Club that the Masterton Club take the initiative in inviting a meeting of delegates from other Wairarapa Clubs to consider the holding of an Open Wairarapa Championship, it was resolved that the Masterton Club heartily approves of the idea, and Messr.-j Lawrence and Cox wei - e appointed delegates with full powers to make arrangements.
