PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt here at 1.24 o'clock this afternoon. The final cricket match to decide the supremacy between Pahiatua and will probably take place on Saturday week. At present each team has two wins to its credit, and no effort will be spared by either team to try and capture the final same. The secretary of the Mangatainoka Football Club has received word from the Kilbirnie football team that they will be unable to play the proD.)=ed match against Mangatainoka on faster , Monday. The country taam are now trying to arrange a match with a team from Wellington South. Mr C. A. Bluett, builder, has just fhished substantial improvements to Mr A. W. Sedcole's house in Sedcole street. A trial of the improved flexible Sadder constructed by Messrs T. (lore and Harold Wyatt, will be made tomorrow. The Scarborough footballers, who started a junior football team last season, will hold their meeting au Mr C. Bluett's house on Mondav evening. This year they will endeavour to put a much stronger team in the field. T ;s local tennis players are praciisiri; every evening in view of the orthcoming tournament at Wanganui at Easter. A letter from Hawke's Bay states that there is a prospect of the Government taking up for closer settlement the "Tangoio Estate," about 15 miles from Napier on the Wairoa Cxich road. i Docks are making their appearance in the Borough Squares, but the Chairman of the Borough Council Works Committee informs me that they are ta Lie dealt with at an early date, and the Squares will also receive a good cleaning up. The harvest thanksgiving services in connection with the Methodist Church will be held on Sunday. The Rev. Mr Carr, from Ashhurst, will preach in the morning and the Rev. Mr Jones, who was at one time stationed in this town, will occupy the pulpit in the evening.
PAHIATUA FOOTBALL CLUB. The annual meeting of,the Pahiatua Club was held in the Commercial Hotel last evening. Mr White-Scott occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. The Club's finances were shown to be in a satisfactory position. The following officers were elected for the ensuing season .-—Patron, Rev. Father McKenna; President, Mr G. Harold Smith; Vice-presi-dent's, Messrs W. Tosswill, P. Debieceny, W. H. Hawkins, Peter Tulle ch, W. Owen, G. Burgess, WhiteScott and J. McCardle; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr J. Swainson; General Committee, Messrs F. Zillwood. H. Thomson, J. McCardle. G. Yule, W. Foss, E. Darley; Selection Committee, G. Yule, F. Zillwood, J. McCardle, Captain and Secretary; Captain, Mr W. E. Collins; delegates to Bush Union, Messrs Collins, Darley and a Vice-President. The following new members were elected:—Messrs H. A. Thomson, A. Hebley, H. Bell. McKay, Eccleton, Hutton, Shasw, Ulrich, McAdam, B. Hall, W. Olson. In regard to Club colours, one member stated that last year all colours were worn, and it was decided to ask the players if possible , o wear the Club's colours, white jerseys and black pants. Some discussion arose as to the place where the meetings of the Union were to be held this season. It w2s stated that there would be no hotel at Hamua after June, and very likely a room for meetings would be hard to obtain at that place. It was decided to instruct the delegates to try and arrange the Union meetings at Fahiatua. It was decided to hold the first practice naatch on the first Saturday after Easter and also to ask the Borough Council to clear the rjshes from the Kecreaion Ground. The service of song entitled "Nell," the story of a London waif, was rendered in the Presbyterian Church last evening in aid of the Sunday School Renovation Fund, and there was a large attendance. Mr C. Mills, the conductor, is to be complimented on the excellent manner in which he wielded the baton.

Sayers. Quartettes were sung by Misses Norrell and W. Sayers, and Messrs B. Mills and W. H. Hawkins, and Misses S. Little and Dunning, arid Messrs Clough and Cooper, while Miss Redwood sang a very pretty solo. The Sunday School Fund will benefit considerably by the performance.
