PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Thursday. I understand that a petition is bein;* signed asking Mr J. D. Wilson to contest the Mayoral seat at the forthcoming election. Mr Wilson has occupied the Mayoral chair on iormer occasions, and has for iEa".y years been a Borough Councillor. He Is also a strong supporter oi the movement *"0 have the Post Office removed to a more central position, and this question will probably be thoroughly threshed out ere the election takes place.

A statuory meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening, the business being to adopt the burgess' roll. The solitary garden seat in one of the Borough Squares has at last iound companions, two more seats having been placed in the squares by Mr A. Evans, of Pahiatua, and Mr T. Brown, of Mangaramarama. The pjblic will no doubt appreciate the gift of these seat 3. The F.M.B. Athletic Society had a large number of people present at their social, in the Hamua Hall, last evening. The music was supplied by Mr L. Ogden (piano) who was ably assisted by Mr C. A. Hicks, 01 Pahiatua, who played ten extras, Miss Tuckwell and Mr J. Orr also playing extras. Mr M. Samuels sang two songs, and Mr Luoni made a capital M.C. The report of the proposed cooperative freezing company in this morning's Age is being read with great interest by farmers of this district, who are willing to help tbe matter along to the best advantage, and are quite satisfied that better results could be obtained if sue h a company were formed. HUKANUI NOTES. A party of residents left here the other day to explore the Tararua .Ranges. The party included some of those who recently made a trip from here to Otaki. Tie manager of the Hukanui Factory (Mr Billingtnn) states that the milk supply at the creamery, this season has been very good, and is keeping up better than in former sea--snns. In all probability the creamery will be kept open until about thte middle of June. FOOTBALL NOTES. The Manfatainoka team have already commenced to practice, and judging by the enthusiasm shown, tbey should ba able to place a good team in the field, both m Senior and Junior matches. There is talk of the Hukanui and Hamua Clubs combining this season, and if so, a very strong team should be the result. Some of the country clubs state that if the Banner matches are started as early as last year they-will be unable to place strong teams in the field at the start, on account of milking operations. The Old Boys held a successful practice on the Recreation Ground, yesterday afte moon. The members of the Woodville Football Club met the other evening to make a presentation to Dr. "Slules, who was recently married. The Doctor has taken a keen interest in the Woodville Club for several years past, and has done much to help along the Club, and he has very generously donated caps to the Club, which will be presented individually at the annual meeting, which is to be held shortly. Advantage was also taken to present Mr Harry Crawford, the oldest playing member r,f the Club, with a travelling rug on the occasion of his leaving for an extended trip to Scotland. Much regret was expressed at Air Crawford's absence from the football field this season, for besides being a genuine sport "Harry" was always a tower of strength to the forward division of the team.
