TARANAKI RACES. : By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, March 25. The Taranaki Jockey Club were again favoured with beautiful weather for the second day's racing. The attendance was probably a reord one for the Club. The totalisators handled £6,579, as against £6,070 10s last year, bringing the total for the two days up to £l2,6oo—an increase of nearly £BOO over last year's figures. Ten bookmakers were licensed, the money received frotn the penci.'lers totalling £553 10s for two days. TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland.") Kilmarnock, winner of the Wanganui Cup, has been re-named Sir Prize. Mr A. F. Douglas intends sending a team over to Australia shortly. Moral, Ikon, St. Albert, Waipu, Needlework, and Bullworth will be included in the lot. Lucretius, Thera, and Gaelic were 3ent over to Nelson yesterday to take part in the meeting there next week. The runcmg of Mahuta in the Taranaki Gup, in which he finished second to Waitapu, goes to show that the black son of Mahaki is not yet a back number. In the early stages of the race he ant 1 Whetumarama made the pace very solid, and this appeared " to have suited Waitapu, who put in one of his irresistible finishes. Sandix is in work again at the Masterton course, and is coming ort fast. He should be ready to race later in the autumn. H. Fletcher is taking Silken Kein and Purakau over to the Nelson meeting. Kelso is doing good work at TauHe is well treated at the Masterton meeting in the matter of weight. California is reported to have recovered from the ailment that caused his retirement from the track early in January, and is again doing good work at Hastings. The son of Sa« Fran races well in heavy going, and may be in evidence during the winter months. At Opaki yesterday morning, some interesting work was witnessed. Osiris and Lebdceio were associated in a half mile flutter, the former showing to best advantage when the post was reached. Aberration and Retinue put in a good working gallop of six furlongs, the first named finishing slightly in front of his companion. The Conqueror—Lady Principal colt had a little the best of Remission in a four furlongs sprint, and Tumut, who got a big break on Sunbonnet at the start of a half mile go, held his advantage to the finish. Merrie Rose, Sandix, Rose Herald, Afterthought, Matira, Forest Queen, Over Rate, and Saracen filly put in good working exercise.
