THE UNEMPLOYED.
The Government have already an- ; nounced a discontinuance <of the assisted immigration policy, except in the case of certain classes of labour which it is difficult to obtain in the Dominion, and the continual harping on this subject by labour organisations is both unnecessary and unfair, says the Christchurch "Star." The Premier has pointed out that there is plenty of employment available upon the co-operative works of the Dominion if the unemployed are prepared to accept it, and the .public would be much more disposed to extend practical help to the men if they displayed a ttttle more anxiety to help themselves. There are, no doubt, cases where hardship exists, but these are the exceptions, and not the rule.
