CASES OF SCARLET FEVER AND
MEASLES,

Shortly before 3 o'clock this after- J noon the steamer Corinthic, which arrived from London this morning, came alongside the wharf, having landed at Somes Island the passengersjjauffering from measles and scarlet fever. Forty-four measles cases (26 males and 18 females) were sent into quarantine at the Island. The four cases of scarlet fever will be taken to the Hospital. Scarlet fever broke out a week after the ship left England, and measles on 26th February. The Immigration Officsr (Mr A. S. Danby) who returned from Australia by the Corinthic, speaks in terms of the highest praise of arrangements made on board ship for preventing the spread of the complaint, and the isolating of the patients, and gives a special word of praise to Dr Grant, ship's surgeon, for the way iri which he dealt with the cases. Of the immigrants on board 240 were assisted (175 adults and 65 children), 141 were nominated by relatives in "New Zealand, and have homes and work ready to go to. The assisted immigrants brine: capital totalling £4,368.
