Mr M' Donald has consented to stand fur the Mayoralty of Dunediti for a second term.

Mr John McCulloch, clerk of the Horowhenua County Council, died on Sunday morning. The deceased was 74 .years of age.

The death is announced by a Press Association cablegram of Mrs Marter, wife of Mr Charles Marter, sub-editor of the Sydney "Daily Telegraph," and for many years connected with the newspaper press of Wellington. Mr Martsr's many friends throughout New Zealand will deeply regret to hear of his "'bereavement.

Mr R. C. Drummond, headmaster of the Ciareville School, who has been appointed to the charge of the new school at Lansdowne, commenced his professional career as a pupil teacher at Mount Cook Boy's School., under Mr C. A. Hardy, 8.A., and was afterwards a junior assistant master at the same school. Later, he was appointed to the charge of the Te Boro School, then to Parkvale, and hence to his present position at Llareville. Mr Drummond is one of the most successful teachers in the Board's service, and is very popular in the Wairarapa district.

At a representative meeting of the Jewish community, held uh Sunday morning, Mr J. Mandel, President, in the chair,, the Rev. H. Van Staveren was unanimously reappointed minister for a further term of seven years, after thirty-two years' service. Reference was made by Messrs Mand J l, F. Cohen, D. J. Nathan, P. J. Nathan, P. Levi, Judah Myers, A. Btaven, and others, to the valuable services rendered by the Rev. Van Staveren to the community, and to the high esteem in which he is held by his congregation.

Last week word was received from Trinity College, London, that Miss Mary O'Neill was awarded (subject to production of birth certificate), one of the College's exhibitions for violin playing at the examination held last September by Mr Henry St. George. The value of the exhibition is six guineas. The young lady is a pupil of St. Bride's Convent, and the value of the exhibition is grently enhanced by the fact of it being awarded on the recommendation of so eminent a violinist as Mr Henry St. George. The distribution of certificates to the successful students at St. Bride's Convent for theoretical and practical music will take place at the Convent on Wednesday, at 2 o'clock. This year the presentation of certificates from both Colleges (Royal Academy and Trinity) will take place on the same day. The silver medal for advanced grade (Royal Academy) will also be presented to Miss Phyllis Hanify. In the absence of the Very Rev. Dean McKenna, Father Saunderson will distribute the certificates.
