CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Sunday. The Tumour current here that Mr Coleman Phillips will contest the Carterton Mayoralty is incorrect. The local Hockey Club has decided to commence the season on April Ist. The Club has a credit balance of £3 10s sd, and the following officers have been elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr W.C. Buchanan; President, Mr W. Moore; Vice-Pre-sidents, Messrs E. Eagle, jun., W. A. Kitchen, J. Fraser, S. A. Pull, W. H. Reynolds, W. J. Lindop, W. Fisher, senr., W. Howard Booth; Captain, Mr J. Fisher (re-elected); Auditor, Mr R. V. King; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr S. Sievers; Management Committee, Messrs King, W. and A. Fisher, and Morgan; Selection Committee, Messrs Pull, W. Moore and W. Fisher; Delegates to Union, Messrs Fisher, Sievers, and Pull. The subscription has bsen fixed at 2s 6d for seniors.

The Hinemoa Ladies' Hockey Club has a credit bilance of £1 Is 8d to commence the season with. Mr and Mrs H. F. Smith, of South Carterton, will celebrate their golden wedding on Saturday next. The event is not going to be allowd to pass over unnoticed, for I understand, that their sons have arranged to celebrate it with a social gathering at Palmerston North on that evening. Harvest festival servics were held to-day in St. Mark's Church, when the interior of the Church was prettily decorated. There were large congregatiuns at each service, the Rev. R. Young officiating. Appropriate hymns were rendered by the choir.

The Land Board has decided to allow Mrs Harris, Messrs Albert Hooker, Nimott and A. Bishop and son their sections on the Carrington Estate without ballot. Mrs Hornsby is at present visiting the Rotorua district for the benefit of h«r health.
