AUCKLAND FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.
MASTERTON TEAM'S RECORD,
The members of the Masterton Fire Brigade, who have been taking part in the Fire Brigades' Demonstration at Auckland, will return to Masterton this evening. The team acquitted itself very creditably. In the Hose, Reel, Flat and Ladder for five men, Masterton finished first in a field of 55 teams, in the good time of 37 2-ssec. The finish of this event was very close as only 2-ssec divided the first and third teams. In the Two Men Coupling event, Masterton finished i fourth out of 83 teams! The finish again was close, only 3-ssec dividing the first and fourth teams. In the run off for fifth place Dunedin South put up a record for the Dominion, viz., 31 4-ssec. In the Manual Engine event for five men Masterton finished seventh out of 20 teams. In this event the teams were called on to compete on an engine of entirely different construction to any previously used at competitions, and the teams seemed to lose all in the event, as they had to alter the mode of running two days before competing. These remarks also apply to the one man engine event, in which Masterton was also unplaced. In the Hose, Hydrant, and Union event, for five men, Masterton finished sixth, 76 teams competing. A Dominion record was also established in this event by Fitzroy team, viz., 29 3-ssec. In the Hose and Hydrant, for three men, Mascerton were again unplaced, 79 teams competing. In the Ladder Race, for one man, Superintendenfc'Jenkins, of Masterton finished first out of 75 competitors. In this event Superintendent Jenkins tied with the Auckland representative, and in the first run off again tied, but in the final run off he had a somewhat easy win, the time being 7 4-ssec. Masterton did not take part in the Baby Rescue event on account of having to run two other events within half an hour of being called for this event. The Napier team put up a record for the event, viz., 23 4-ssec. In the last event, the Alarm and' Disabled Hose, for five men, Masterton just finished out of a place in a field of 46 teams. In points for the various shields, Masterton were third for the Champion Shield, with 27 points: second for the High Pressure Shield, with 27 points; and scored 6 points for tha Manual Shield. There were teams from eighty-seven Brigades competing.
