TURF NOTES.
(By "Zetland"). As generally expected after the appearance of the weights, the Hon. • J. D. Ormond's Woodhey, 7.6, bad no difficulty in winning the Napier Park Cup. It was considered that the Birkenhead raa'e was thrown in at least ten pounds lower than her form warranted, and the result upheld this contention, as she won ridiculously easy by ten lengths. Glissade, the winner of the SaplingStakes, at the Napier Park Meeting, was ridden*by T. Carroll. Osiris was a contestant in the Napier Park Cup, but the heavy state ot the going detrimentally affected his chance, and he finished in the ruck. At Opaki this week, the plough gallop has been too heavy for work, consequent on the rain, and most of the galloping has been done on the grass training track, which is in good order. Moloch is the only Wairarapa horse nominated for the Feiiding meeting. Mr J. G. Duncan, the Waikanae stud-toaster, is sending ten thoroughbred brood mares over to the Randwick sales next month. A. Neale, at present head lad at AShearsby's stables, Levin, hau been appointed trainer to Mr D. Buick's team at Palmerston. A full sister to Blue Ribbon, recently purchased by Mr St. John Buckley, is to go into J. Prosser's stable at Porirua. The Otaki Maori Racing Club is giving £4OO prize money for its next Cup race. Loiret, who has run disappointingly on the flat this season, is to be schooled over hurdles. The New Zealand Cup winner, Downfall, is suffering from JJthe effects of a bruised foot, and may not be seen at his best for some time.
