WELLINGTON TO NAPIER MOTOR iSYCLE RECORD CHALLENGED. This record was establishes on the first of January, 1909, by Mr H. S. Schaeffer, who rode an 1908 model Triumph Motor Cycle. Mr Schaeffer left Wellington at 4.30 a.m. and arrived in Napier at 1.9 p.m. the same day, his total time for the distance being 8 hours 39 minutes. This record still remains unbeaten, although two attempts have been made to lower it by a higher powered multicylinder machine, which only covered 30 miles on the first and 150 miles on the second try. The Triumph have only had one attempt, and that was on New Year's Day, when the record was established, and it was advertised before hand. Whereas these last two attempts have been done on the quiet, which is not a fair way of testing before the public the reliability of a machine. This particular machine might, after a few more tries, possibly lower the existing Triupmh record, but this can hardly be called a true test of Reliability. Triumph riders have always, and always will, notify the public when they are attempting to lower records, as they have full confidence in the absolute reliability and speed of their machines. 1909 models now on view at Mr R. Pook's Cycle Depot. Queen Street, Masterton. Trial spins arranged. Inspection invited.*
