THE BROKEN HILL TROUBLE.

ARBITRATION COURT AWARD. FRESS COMMENT. SYDNEY, March 13 The "Sydney Morning Herald" thinks that, having regard to the strenuous nature of the work at Broken Hill, few people will be inclined to cavil at the Arbitration Court award. "A point of the difficulty, however, is whether it is a basis of remuneration which the company can accept and continue to work without loss." Mr Justice Higgins, in his award, stated that he strongly held the view that, unless the circumstances were very exceptional, a needy employer should, under the award, pay at the same rate as his rich rival;otherwise it would be impossible to prevent sweating, the growth of parasitic enterprises, or the spread of industrial unrest. The Proprietary Company will consider the award next week.

ANOTHER STRIKE. A WARNING. Received March 14, 4.30 p.m. % SYDNEY, March 14. The men employed at the Broken Hill Junction North Mine struck as a protest against working with a nonunionist. The combined unions have issued a notice warning the men not to return to work at the Proprietary and Block Ten mines until the directors of the Proprietary mine announce what they intend doing. A meeting of the directors of Block Ten mine discussed Mr Justice Higgins' award and decided to resume work asJUsoon as practicable.
