PERSONAL.
Mr T. M. Wilford has' decided to be a candidate for the Wellington Mayoralty. Captain Harold of the Dorset Regiment, who recently arrived at Napier from England on furlough, has received cable advice that he has been appointed assistant-adjutant-general on the headquarters staff in South Africa. The many friends of Constable Carmody, of Carterton, who has been laid up in the South Wairarapa Hospital, suffering from an injury sustained to one of his legs some time ago, will be pleased to learn, writes our Carterton correspondent, that he has sufficiently recovered so as to be able to get about again. Mr Frank Richards, who has been associated with the Wairarapa Age staff as foreman of the mechanical department since the paper's inception, and who leaves to take up a lucrative appointment in Hobart, was tendered a complimentary banquet, and made the recipient of a handsome presentation at the hands of the Age proprietary and staff on Saturday evening. The function took place at Arcadia Tea Rooms, the management of which provided an excellent repast. Mr Richards received as parting souvenirs an oak and silver salad bowl, and a silver match-box, the presentation being made by Mr A. C. Major, who eulogised the long and worthy services rendered by Mr Richards, and who wished the recipient and his family every success in their new sphere, Other speakers added tributes to Mr Richards' popularity, the toast of his health being also honoured with enthusiasm. Other toasts were drunk, the evening passing off very pleasantly in songs and sneeehes.
