A LIBEL ACTION.
AN EDITOR'S ADMISSIONS. DAMAGES AWARDED. Received March 12, 8.55 a.m. LONDON, March 11. Mr Justice Grantham, sitting in the King's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice, commenced the hearing of a libel action brought by J. G„ Jenkins, late South Australian Agent-General, against the newspaper "Australian Trading World," for circulating in January, 1908, a groundless rumour that he was to be replaced, and alleging that his agent-generalship had not been successful, and that he had caused dissatisfaction in South Australia 'owing to his lacking energy and enthusiasm. The Hon. E. A. Harvey, late of Western Australia, and now practising at the English Bar, is Mr Jenkins' counsel. He attributed the libel to Mr Jenkins' refusal to give the defendant paper advertisements. The editor of the "Australian Trading World," admitted having written to Mr Jenkins several requests for advertisements, and hinted that he naturally supported those who supported the paper. ! Mr Justice Grantham summed up strongly against the paper. Mr Jenkins did not ask for h:avy damages, and £25 awarded, with costs £SOO.
