ON CATHOLICS IN BRITAIN. TUMULTUOUS SCENES. STATEMENT BY REV J. HOCKING. Received March 12. 0 &.-'"*:,■ LONDON, March 11. AC the Free Church Council, the Rev. Joseph Hocking made a violent attack on the Catholics. He alluded to the fact that there vver"! monasteries and nunneries in Britain, compared with 70 in 1851, and bitterly attacked th? newspapers on the ground than they favoured Catholics. There were l'j:iu:Huous scenes, owing to Mr Hocking accusing- prominent Free Church politicians of opposing the proposal for ;: Government enquiry regarding conventual institutions in Britain. The Council decided that the speech should be put in pamphlet form and sold broadcast at a penny a copy.
