THE PARK LAKE.

The aquatic sports held yesterday on the Park Lake no doubt impressed upon the minds of many, as similar gatherings in the past have done, the splendid asset that the town enjoys in the Park Lake. As it is now it is "a thing of beauty," and it will, beyond question, be" a joy forever"; but an extension of the lake is a work easily capabla of accomplishment,— when the people have a desire to see such an undertaking carried out. The attendance at yesterday's sports, although fairly satisfactory, was not nearly so large as the occasion deserved, and in view of the most laudable objects which the promoters of the sports endeavour to further. The crowd of schoolboys and youths disporting themselves in the lak2 must have been a pleasing sight to every parent present. Clean, healthy sport of a useful character, tending to increase both muscular and constitutional strength, as well as qualities of self-control, energy, and an appreciation of commendable rivalry, claims the t arnest support of everyone who has the welfare of the commuii ity at heart. The contests between those of older years were of a satisfactory character, and the whole proceedings of the afternoon were much enjoyed by all who were present. Something more than a word of praise is due to those who, in the promotion of the sport of swimming, and in the making of efforts that are doing much to render the Park Lake exceedingly popular, urneKsbly sacrifice a great deal of

time, and generally exert themselves for the cause that r.hey have at heart. We can only express our keen appreciation of the good work that they are doing, and assure them that there are many others in the community who recognise the value of their work.
