MARCH] SERIES. OPEN BRISKLY AT AN ADVANCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received March 10, 10 a.m LONDON, March 9. The woo! sales opened briskly at about-a 5 per cent, advance. The .New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. have received the following cablegram from their London house, under yesterday's date:—Wool sales—-There was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day. Competition by Home, Continental, and American buyers was spirited, and prices, as compared with the clo3e of preceding series, ruled about 5 per cent, higher. The opening catalogues were fairly representative. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Wellington, have received the following cable message from their London office, dated 9th inst. :-The wool sales have opened. There is a large attendance of buyers, and competition is animated. Selection fair. Greasy merinos and greasy crossnreds have advanced 5 per cent., as compared with the closing rates of January series. Scoured merinos—A change if any is in sellers' favour. Extra super greasy merino wools have not been offered for sale yet. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received the following cable, under date 10th instant:—"The sales have opened with strong competition, and a large attendance of buyers. There is a good demand, with heavy buying from all branches of the trade, and prospects are brighter. Prices are higher by a }d to kl per lb." Messrs Levin and Co., Ltu., nave, received the following cablegram from their London agents, the National Mortgage and Agency Co. of New Zealand, Ltd., dated 9th inst.: —Merinos and crossbreds generally have opened at an advance of 5 per cent, on the closing rates of last sales. American buyers are operating freely.
