The election for a Licensing Committee resulted after tne keenest contest on record in the defeat of the candidates (Prohibition) pledged to a maximum reduction of licenses which would have entailed tha closr g of fourteen hotels. The Citizei s League (Moderate) ticket was returned, the successful candidates being Messrs Bagnall, Holland, Mennie, Somers and D ■. Kinjf. WESTPOaT, Maich 9. At the Buller Licensing Elsction to-day the Trade and No-Licensa League ran full tickets. Tne former in returns to hand h-'ve completely swept the poll, their five candidates being in a substantia] lead. Several small returns have \ec to come to hand. WELLINGTON, March 9. The .Alliance farty did not run a "ticket" for the Hutt Licensing contenst, and there was little interest in the election. Only about 15 per cent, of the eleetois voted. The old committee was re-elected, namely, Messrs W. Inglis, J. Cottor, H. E. Ryder, O. Siemens, J. Cudby. DUNEDIN, March S. Gonsiderahle interest was take,; in licensing matter to-day, each side being represented by five candidates. The result saw the No-License Party ticket returned by a fairly substantial majority. In Dunedin South the No-License Committee was also elected. It is understood that both Committees will refuse the bottle licenses. NELSON, March 9. Only moderate interest was taken in the Licensing Committee elections, which resulted in the return of the following out of twelve candidates: —H. Atmore, T. Pettit, R. Matson R.
