Mrs Morrison, late Matron at the Masterton Hospital, will leave for the north by the mail train tomorrow. Miss Roberts, who was recently appointed Matron to the Masterton Hospital, arrived yesterday and commenced her duties. To-day Mr J. Mackenzie, Commissioner for Crown Lands, will go to Carterton to inspect an estate which is under otter to the Government. Mr Alex. Armstrong, who is about to retire on superannuation from the position of Chief Gaoler at Wellington, was born at sea in 1843. He was an officer of the East India Company's service for 21 years. He was in charge of the gaol at Invercargill from 1903 until he was pro moted to his present position in Wellington. On Sunday morning Mr P. Blatchford, of Featherston, accompanied by his wife and child, were driving to Carterton, and when near the Black Bridge the horse tripped on a loose stone, and fell. The o:cupants of the gig were thrown out on to the road, Mr Blatchford spraining his ankle and being severely bruised on the h3ad and neck. Mrs Blatchford was bruised ard shaken, but the child escaped uninjured.
