A GOOD SIGN.
Substantial evidence of the good season that farmers have experienced is to be found in the value of the exports being made. At the port of Wellington, during the month just past, exports to the value of £688,817 were made, which is no less than £140,000 in excess ot the value of the exports for February last year. This increase in value must be deemed eminently satisfactory, especially when it is considered that the prices of meat and flax are low, and that tutter is realising less than it did at this time last year. The most marked increases are under the following headings: Beef, 1908, £B,BOB, 1909, £15,186; mutton, 1908, £35,651, 1909, £63,624; lamb, 1908, £41,013, 1909, £60,453; butter, 1908, £36,163, 1909, £79,850; cheese, 1908, £16,034, 1909, £34,630; | wool, 1908, £347,109, 1909, £353,'325; hides, 1908, £4,349, 1909, £11,147; skins,-1908, £12,889, 1909, £18,255, in hemp there was a marked decrease in the value exported, the figures being, 19C8, £21,206, 1909, £12,548.
