PERSONAL.
The Hon. C. H. Mills has been"called" by his Excellency the Governor to the Legislative Council. Mr Mills is a native of Wellington, having been born here in 1844, and be was at one time a pupil teacher in Te Aro School. Then he went toMarlborough, and was elected a member of the Provincial Council in 1874. He also served on various. local bodies in that province, and in 1890 entered the House of Representativesas member for Waimea-Picton. He sat for various portions of Marlborough till last general election, when he rstired. During his Parliamentary career he was tor eight years Senior Government Whip, and . in 1900 he joined the Seddon Government as Minister for Customs, besides holding the portfolios of>"Valuation, Advances to Settlers and Cook;: Islands.
