' The return match between the Eketahuna and Woodville Tennis Clubs was played on the former Club's courts on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the home team by one set. -During the afternoon, tea was provided by the ladies' committee, and at the conclusion of the match the visitors were entertained at Kershaw's tea rooms. Some very good games and close 'finishes were witnessed. The local ladies have considerably improved in their play since the club visited Woodville, which face materially affected the result of the match. The following are the scores: Gents' Doubles. GENERAL.
The Presbyterian Bazaar was brought to a close on Friday night with a musical programme, which Included children's action songs, which were much appreciated, and reflected great credit on Mrs Allen, who has spared no pains to bring the children to a high state of proficiency. Mrs Torrence contributed two vocal items, as did Mr Wright, and •a humorous recitation by Mr Gibb -was highly apulauded. The Nebraska Nigger Troupe gave another programme, which included the usual gags, in which a good many local hits were successfully got off, songs, .glees and step < ancing. Mr John j Ainslic, who for the past month has 1 had the troupe in hand, deserves j special mention for the manner in I which he has developed the local tal- j '•ent. It is anticipated that the Bazaar I will realise a net profit </f £6O. I The Eketahuna Mounted Rifles par- • aded(mounted) on Thursday evening last, under Captain E. Page, there being a good muster. The squadron ■was exercised in squadron drill by Lieut. Farmer and non-commissioned ►officers. It is satisfactory to note the enthusiasm that the members aie display ing with repard to the military events in connection with the !■ timers Um\n Shaw to be held en Thursday nex{, a number of entries having already been received for the various events. The Government subsidy to the local Library this year is £7 0s Bd. Olsen. Several mcmLers of the Tararua Rifle Club will re competitors atTrentham.
