FIRE INSURANCE RATES.

The Council of the Fire Underwriters' Association has concluded its sittings. It is well known that much of the time of the Conference was taken up in discussing the question of raising the rates, and a scheme to that effect was drafted. It appears, however, that there was not absolute unanimity of opinion on the subject, and until the proposals outlined have received consideration by several of the companies interested no definite statement on the subject can be made. That an increase of rates will be made is generally regarded as a certainty. As to the details of the increases or when they will come into force even the insurance people arc in doubt.
