A SEASIDE RESORT.
PALLISER BAY. At the quarterly meeting of members of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon the business was confined to Mr Donald Donald's report on the recent trip down the Wairarapa Lake to Palliser Bay, and the subsequent resolution of which he was the mover. Mr Donald, in describing the observations of the party, stated that the trip from the head of the lake to the bay was accomplished in three hours,, ir. Mr Barton's oil launch. The beath at the Loflgr Lake, he said, was admirably adapted for the purposes of a recreation grou d for children, while surf bathing might be indulged in. Boat racing could be easily arranged for on a stretch of water forming a channel. The Western Lake road was available for motor traffic to within a short distance of the bay, and the trip could be made by car from Masterton in about three hours and a-half. Mr Donald then moved the following motion-"That, in the opinijn of this Council, Palliser Bay would make a splendid seaside resort for the people of Wairarapa, and that it be a suggestion to the Featherston Chamber of Commerce that they should take the initiative in establishing a ferry S2rvice from Pigeon Bush to the bay, by providing for a suitable motor boat to carry, say, one hundred passengers, and costing about £450, running, to start, as required, about December nejit. This Chamber undertakes to assist hy canvassing this portion of the district either for shares or subscriptions. This Council considers that such a service would prove a valuable asset to Featherston and a lasting benefit to the residents of Wairarapa, as it would afford them a good health resort, and an easy and cheap means of spending a pleasant day on the beach with their families during the summer months. It is also a suggestion to advocate the improvement of the road to Palliser Bay via Western Lake for light traffic." Several members expressed themselves as pleased with the proposal, and the motion was adopted without further discussion.
