RIFLE SHOOTING.
SOUTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION'S MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 26. The fifth annual meeting of the South Island Rifle Association opened at Redcliffs this morning, when about eighty marksmen faced the targets. The local representation was certainly not so strong as the programme warranted, but visitors mustered in full force. These represented Invercargill, Alexandra, Queeiistown, Oamaru, Timaru, Southland, Oreti, Dunedin, Riversdale, Amuri, Rangiora and Waimate, for the South Island, and Mastarton and Hastings in the North. Of the ex-South Island champions, W. S. King, Gee and Bradley are firing, while of men who have made their reputations as shots at the Trentham meeting there are a large number. Most of the visitors have taken the meeting on their way to the big Trentham gathering, and as the original idea of the founders of the that it should act as a practice meet- J ing in view of Trentham, the gathering may be said to have fulfilled its functions.
