The health of Mrs Hooker, senr., Tif South Carterton, is causing her friends anxiety, writes our Carterton correspondent. Mr A. N. Bums, captain and adjutant of the Wairarapa Battalion of Public School Cadets, has resigned his position on account of pressure of school business. Mr Purcdl Webb, of Nelson, arrived in Masterton to-day, and is the'gueltof Dr. Cowie. Mr Webb will play the organ at the Sunday services at Knox Church, also give a recital on Tuesday evening. A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that Mr Allan MacDougall, of Victoria College, who formerly cr.me from Southland, has been selected as the Rhodes scholar fron New Zealand for 1909. : Miss A. D. Rennie, of Woolston, Christchurch, has been appointed cookery instructing under the Wellington Education Board. Miss Rennie has had ten years' experience in various positions in connection with cooking instruction, and holds certificates of the City and Guilds of London for high-class and plain cooking. It is understood that Mr 0. E. jßartram, of Gisborne, intends resigning his seat as a member of the Hawke's Bay Land Board. No official, infoimaton, however, has been received of the fact. The resignation will necessitate the appointment of two Government representative? on the board, as the position vacated by Mr T. Hyde has also to be filled.
