CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES.
3y Telegraph- Press Association. CHRISTCHURCII, Feb. 24. The fifth and final of the current series of wool sales was held yesterday, the catalogues of the seven firms taking part in the sale aggregating 1,989 bales. The comparatively small offerings were largely accounted for by the fact that the satisfactory demand at the earlier sales induced growers to sell, the passings being unusually light, and consequently the number of lines re-offered was very few. The bulk of the wool consisted of small lots, constituting the wind-ing-up of the season's clips, much of which is of indifferent quality. The attendance of buyers was somewhat smaller than at the sales held earlier in the season, and was confined mainly to representatives of local factories and fellmongering establishments. The bulk of wool sold was secured by local and Eradford buyers. Competition was fairly brisk except for merir.o, which was neglected, tne greater part of this description being passed. Taking quality into consideration, the prices obtained •were fairly on a par with those ruliig at the previous'sale. Following was the rangft of prices:—Merino —super, BJd to 9Jd; medium to good, 7£d to 8d; inferiur, 6£d to 7d. Halfbred—super, 9jd to 9|d; medium to gcod, 7idto9d; inferior, 5d to 7d.
