THE PENGUIN DISASTER.
NAUTICAL INQUIRY. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 24. Several master mariners gave evidence at the Penguin inquiry to-day, mainly concerning the 3et of the currents in the Straits. After counsel had addressed the Court, Dr McArthur, the President, announced that the inquest on ' the victims would be held to-morrow, and the Marine Court would probably give its judgment on Friday.
RELIEF FUND. By Telegraph—Pres3 Association. WELLINGTON, February 24. The Government has decided to subscribe £I,OOO towards the Penguin Relief Fund. The Mayor of Wellington states that a meeting of subscribers to the Relief Fund will be held on Monday night. Meanwhile temporary relief is being given where needed. The Government has decided to extend the telephone line from Makara to McMenamin's station, near the scene of the Penguin disaster.'
