PERSONAL.
Rev. A. T. B. Page, new vicar of Greytown and Featherston, arrived bv the Athenic from London on Saturday last. Captain Harold Williams, of the Imperial Army, and formerly of -Napier, returned to Wellington from -London by the Athenic. The Rev. Father Kelly, who for four years past has acted as curate for the Roman Catholic parish at Masterton, will leave this week for Patea, where he will do relieving parish work. Father Kelly leaves Masterton permanently, and as he has been extremely popular among his parishioners and with the public of Masterton generally, this fact will be very keenly regretted. Father Kelly's kindly disposition, unassuming manner and his solicitude for the spiritual welfare of his congregation, have made him many firm friends in the district, and he will carry away • with him the best wishes of all with whom he ha 3 come into contact during his residence in Masterton. Mr Hone Piripi (John Phillips), who is at present residing in Wellington, will be a candidate for the Northern Maori district seat vacant by the death of Mr Hone Ileke. He was born in the Hokianga district, where his father, now a resident of Taranaki, was a Maori school teacher for many years. The new aspirant for Parliamentary honours has taken a keen interest in -politics for some years, and claims an.intimate knowledge of the wants of the native race. He will stand <as an independent Liberal, and will leave for the North on March 3rd to give addresses in some of ' the centres of the constituency.
