CRICKET.
MASTERTON v. UNIIED. ■ The Maaterton and United teams commei.ced a match 011 ice Park Ov'al on Saturday last. won the toss, and went to the wickets first. The innings produced he fine total of 256. Perry was top scorer with 91 not out. His driving and cutting were beautifully timed, and his play all round the wicket was of a highly meritorious order. Though he gave a chance at 90, Perry s innings was by far the best that has j been seen on'the Park Oval for some , seasons,and he was indeed unfortuna 8 in the respect of not having players towards the end of the innings who j were able to hold their wickets up till he had reached the coveted century. Perry received many congratulations on his fine display. Another grand innings was that compiled by Esson, viz., 56. This player batted well all through and made some very neat strokes which brougl t him boundaries. In making 34 Rawsuii gave his best display this season. He batted vigorously, and at the same time correctly and altogether his innings was pleasing to watch. Moorehouse played a nice bat for 21, and Redmond scored a neatly made 15. Thompson played well for his 10. At the call of time United had 57 up for the loss of three wickets, Clark (not out 13) and O'Leary (11) being the double figure scorers. The Carlton and Carterton teams commenced a senior match on the Park Oval on Saturday last. Carlton batted first and made 133. Moss was top score with 69. He played a perfect innings up to 45, and then commenced to hit out, with the result that he sent up several catches, none of which were accepted. Stjles played a good innings for 22, being' over an hour at the wickets. The partnership between this player and Moss resulted in 70 being added to the score. Ogier played a nice innings for 19, while T. Hoar (13) hit out for his runs. Maunsell bowled well for Carterton. At the call of time Carterton had lost five wickets for 79. T. Hoar was the mosc successful of the Carlton bowlers, and bowled splendidly, swer- ' ving at times. He repeatedly tied . the batsmen up.
