ACCIDENTS AT MASTERTON.
A LITTLE BOY TERRIBLY INJURED. Lincoln road, Masterton, was the scene of a shocking occurrence on Saturday afternoon. A little lad named Harry Kavanagh, six and ahalf year 3 old, son of Inspector Kavanagh, of the Permanent Way Branch cf the Railway Department, was plijing on the roadway i" the street n entioned just after miV- lay. Two waggon loads of straw were driven past him on their way to the station, the vehicles beiug connected by a pole. It seems astthough the boy tried to secure a ride either on this pole or on the back of the ffirst of the two waggons, but what- • ever the case he fell on to the roadway, and a rear wheel of the back '•waggon passed over his legs above the knees. The little fellow was terribly injured, and after being conveyed to his home near by was taken to the Masterton Hospital in :the ambulance waggon. One of his -legs was amputated, and last night hi 9 condition was such as to cause very little hope to be entertained for his recovery. Great sympathy will be felt for Mr and Mrs Kavanagh, both of whom are well-known and esteemed residents of Masterton. DR. PRIOR SLIGHTLY HURT. On Saturday evening Dr. Prior met with an accident which was fortunately of a much less serious character than was rumoured about town ■» during the evening. The Doctor was • coming from the Hospital at about 7.30 o'clock on'his motor cycle, and when on the Lansdowne slope he met a number of stable horses being driven in the opposite direction. Just ahead of Dr. Prior was another cyclist, and one of the horses, in attempting to pass.the latter, swerved into the Doctor and upset him on to the road. The horse also fell, and in rising again trampled on Dr. Prior, on the fleshy part of the thigh. Beyond this and a severe shaking the Doctor sustained 'injuries, and though confined to his bed all day yesterday, he will probably be able to get about to-day. It was at first reported that Dr. Prior's injuries were of a serious nature, and it will be gratifying news to his many friends tn learn that he escaped so fortunately.
