DROWNING ACCIDENT.

WANGANUI, February 18. Thomas Cooper, aged 19 years, whose parents reside at Havelock, was drowned in the river this morning while bathing. While swimming near a groyne, he got out into a current, which was very strong, and was heard to cry out, "I'm done" "I'm done" and then sank. Other bathers dived, but were unsuccessful in finding the body. The deceased was employed in the Lands Department, and had just received word that he had passed the senior Civil Service examination.
