NIREAHA SCHOOL PICNIC.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The annual school picnic was held at Nireaha on Thursday. Owing to heavy showers of rain which fell on and off all day, the \ attendance, although large was not what it would I have been had the weather been fine. There were, however, besides local residents, visitors from Eketahuna I and Kaipororo present. The committee were able between the show- : ers to get off all the boys and girls j races after which the other events were held inside the hall. The Kaipororo Brass Band are deserving of thanks for their attendance at this I picnic. The music under the conductorship of Bandmaster Rass Hansen was much appreciated by all- Great; credit is due to Mr McKinley, the energetic secretary of the School Committee, for the way all arrange- j merits were made and carried out. j The ladies of the district also de- j served|especial mention, having pro- j vided refreshments. j The following are the winners of | I tbr difFerents events: — | Boys' Race, under eight years— i 'L. Bandsmen Guessing CompetitionPi Hansen 1, L. Parker 2, 0. Falkner and R. Falkner tied for 3. Towards evening the weather cleared up, and the social ard dance in the hall was largely attended. A most enjoyable evening was spent. Mr Dohnt was a capable M.C. The music was supplied by Mr John Day's piano and Mr and Mrs Hall violin arid piano. Kecitations were given by Mr McKinley, and phonograph selections by Mr Hans Larsen. Supper was handed round shortly before midnight, after which dancing was continued and kept up till the early hours of the morning.
