EKETAHUNA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

(From Our Own Corresp-ndent). The adjourned meeting of the Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr A. H. Herbert), Crs Mead, Baillie, Hastwell f>nd Carter. A letter was received from the engineer stating that the Jones' Estate roads had been completed to his satisfaction. The Treasury stated that the proportion ot special loans amounting to £2,781 2s 9d (half-yearly interest £57 18s 9d) had been transferred from the County Council to the Borough. Mr Tonkin wrote giving notice that he intended to claim damages for water turned on his land. The Railway Department wrote giving the Council permission to divert surface water into a cattle stop, also that on receipt of £34 they would complete the crossings at Jones and Hastwell streets. The Council resolved to take action against a ratepayer who had failed to connect with the town drainage system. It was decided that apolications be called for ranger, dog tax collector and inspector of nuisances at £25 per year. The Mayor reported that Mrs Wilson had given a seat for the Domain. —lt was resolved to thank Mrs Wilson for her donation of a seat. It was resolved that a fence be erected half-way around the oval to assist in keeping back the people at the forthcoming sports meeting. It was decided that the asphalting of footpath from Harrison's to Wilson's corner be put in hand at once. Leave of absence was granted to Crs Wise and Knight. The Works Committee reported that the Queen street metalling was finished, and the cost was within the estimate. The contract for completing the drain in Bridge street had been let to Mr Pithis, and the work was in progress. Mr Peterson had been instructed to repair the swing bridge, and the timber for the work has been ordered. Mr Peterson had commencd repairing the wires. The estimate for shifting the flagpole is £ll, and the committee recommend a site opposite the Courthouse, and that the bank be fenced in and planted. The clerk presented a statement of Borough accounts, showing a debit balance to Domain Account of £l7 8s Bd, and a debit balance at the bank of £314 14s 9d on the General Account.
