CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Thursday. There was an improvement to-day in the condition of Mr T. Hart, of Ashhurst, who is seriously ill. Mr M. H. Kendall, representative for Messrs Veitch and Alfan, drapers, of Wellington, is at present on a visit to Carterton. Mr J. Devery, Singer Sewing, Machine agent, left here this morning for Hawera, where he will commence his new duties to-morrow. His successor has not yet arrived. Mr "Bert" De Lacey, formerly of Carterton, and now of Hawke's Bay arrived here by this afternoon's express on a brief holiday visit. A welcome downpour of rain set in in this district this morning, and will do an immense amount of good. In many parts of tho district the roads were breaking up, and the ground becoming parched. In one respect it was rather unfortunate that it commenced to-day, as being Thursday, a picnic and a number of cricket matches had been arranged, and these had to be postponed. Owing to the wet weather, the local members of the Hope of Carterton Tent, 1.0. R., did not maKe the trip to Masterton this evening as intended. The Carterton junior cricket team to play against St. Matthew's, at Masterton on Saturday, will be as follows: McKenzie, Armstrong, Williams (2), Feast, (2)' Say well, Gaskin, Petersen, Fairbrother and Lamb. « The date of the Ahiaruhe Sports has been altered from March 4th to March 11th, on account of the Carrington stock sale being held on the former date. Bro. R. Holms, C.R., presided at a meeting of Court Marquis of Normanby last evening, when routine business was dealt with. The presiding officer installed S.C.R. Bro. A. Fisher, J.B. Bro. J. Fisher and J.W. Bro. F*. Dixon. Bro. P. Molloy, on behalf of the Court, presented Bro.' R. Spora, P.C.R., with a past officer's certificate and ribbon.
