AMUSEMENTS.

POLLARD'S JUVENILE OPERA : COMPANY. The following from an Australian contemporary speaks volumes as to the merits of "The Gay Hussar:— "The Theatre Royal on Saturday night was filled in every part, there being a treble row of patrons round the back of the dress circle. All present, too, thoroughly enjoyed the bright and tuneful performance, which ran smoothly and attractively through both its charming acts. The piece was true musical comedy with a coherent story interwoven with it, and all the scenes harmonising with the central theme. The music was always sweet and alluring, while the scenery and costuming were artistic, and each of the members of the company evinced enthusiasm and expert training. The great majority of the members of the capable ciste were children, but they were clever children, and, after all, there is a particular charm in a parformance when its exponents are real juveniles with their hearts full of the joy of life, and their natures attuned to merriment and gaiety. There was no make-believe in the happiness of the principals or the chorus, and the spirit of revelry and glee, which enlivened the stage scenes during the evening, was of an entirely genuine character. The audience were lavish with applause, and most of the lyrics had to be repeated."
