BRITAIN AWAKENING.
APPEAL FOR TERRITORIALS. A GOOD RESPONSE. ENCOURAGING SUPPORT FROM EMPLOYERS. Received February 8, 8.30 a.m. LONDuN, February 7. In consequence of the newspaper references to the patriotic play, "An Englishman's Home," and Lord Esher through the "Daily Maii" appealing for 11,000 territorials to complete the London establishment, an anonymous donor has forwarded £IO,OOO to the funds of the London Territorials Association.
The mayors of London boroughs are calling meetings. Over 200 large firms are granting the Territorials in their employ three weeks' holiday, in order to encourage enlisting. MEN ENROLLING IN THE TERRITORIALS. Received February 8, 20.20 p.m. LONDON. February 8. In response to the "Daily Mail's" appeal a thousand men enrolled in the London Ttiritorials in three days. YACHTSMEN AND EMPIRE DEFENCE. Received February 8, 9 a. m. MELBOURNE, February 8. The Governor-General of Australia the Earl of Dudley, speaking at a yachting luncheon, referred to the value of the pastime of yacl ting, and the need for keeping alive a love for the sea. His Excellency hoped to -see a larger number of Australians wearing the British naval uniform, not with the identical button worn by the people who walk about Portsmouth, but a uniform which would be regarded as the King's uniform, and that thty would te part of the general defence forces of the Empirs. He would like to see absolute equality in all the services of the Crown between all British citizens, wherever born. He did not believe we would ever get a complete idea of Empire until that was accomplished.
