\ Dunedm Presa Association t°leeram announces the death of M* James of the firm of M'Gill and Thomson, ex-president of the Master Builiers' Association. Among the delegates who are attending th 3 Rechabite Conference, wh : ch will op?ti at Masterton this mcriins;, is Mr M. G. Gisborne, a prominent Lodge official of that town, who has particularly interested himself in the important matters that are to come before the Conference.
Mr F. J. Hull, for three y°*rs manager of the R'anch of the H '*ik of New South Wales at Waipa-va, •which is being closed, was entertained bv the townspeople on Saturday nteht, and presented with a purse of sovereigns, says a Pres9 Assaciition teleeram. The ladies of the town made a presentation to Mrs Hull. Mr F. W. Mansfield. Chief Electoral Officer of New Zealand, who vras granted tvo months' leave of absence in order that he might visit Australia f»r the benefit of his health, and at the sam* time enquire into the electoral systems in the ] Commonwealth, is not expected to return to th« Dominion before the 20th inst. Owing to the appointment of Mr G. H. LightEoot to the Labour Department, Mr J. T. Stobart has been appointed temporarily to act as general secretary n£ the Amalaramated Society of Carpenters and Joiners in Wellington. Mr Stobart has been connected with the Society for twenty years, and was for some time an active member of the London management committee. He was also a member of the Conciliation Board in connection with his trade in London. Mr Lightfoot will take up his new duties at the end of the present month.
