YACHTING.

THE SAYONARA CUP CONTEST,

THE SECOND RACE

THE SAYONARA WINS EASILY.

Received February 7, 4.30 p.m. SYDNEY.. February 6. The second race for the Sayonara Cup resulted in an easy viciory for the Victorian yacht Sayonara (the defender). The weather was perfect, with a south-westerly breeze. The challenger, the yacht Thelma, of Sydney, was first over the line. In a steady breeze the Sayonara quickly forged ahead and rounded the first buoy eight minutes thirtythree seconds ahead of her rival.

• She sailed right away to the second y buoy, rounding it ten minutes and fifty-five seconds before the Thelma. On the long reach home the Thelma slightly improved her position, sailing very fast in the freshing breeze, but the Sayonara finished nine minutes and fifty-one seconds before her.

The Thelma won the first race by 45 seconds. The original yacht Sayonara sailed from Port Phillip to Port Jackaon and won the cup from the Sydney yacht Bona. The owner of the winner, Mr A. Gollin, then presented the cup for competition on a system of challenge similar to that governing the America Cup races. Sydney yachtsmen are keen to take the trophy back.
