A TREASURER'S COMPLAINT, j
EXPLOITING THE MARKET

SYDNEY, February 4
The Hon. T. Waddi.ll, State Treasurer, in a speech at, Grafton, complained that New Zealand and other States were exploiting the cnarket by selling their stocks up to 4 per' cent. The Government-had not increased the rate of interest paid on stock issued by the Treasury, realising the vital importance of traders and others keeping the interest rates low. If neighbouring Governments continued to expbi: the market by outbidding in rates of interest. New South Wales may De forced, in selfdefence, said Mr Waddell, to her rates.
LONDON WOOL SALES.
ANIMATED COMPETITION
Received February 4, 5.50 a.m. LONDON, February 3. The wool sale was more animated. There was brisk American biddings. Crossbreds and best merinos are now from 5 to 7& per cent, above opening rates. The following prices were realised: —R S over T, 9|d; Matawa, 9gd;" Akitio, lUgd.
