MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

(From Our Own !> The monthly meeting c; the ivi;! iceville County Council was held on Saturday. January 30th. Ihere were present:—Crs Ku miner (chairman), Daag, Forsberg, Jackson. I?nk-ion and Perry. Several letters were received from the to the (,:>i:'I?;!t■! o .\i<: Board, in which he reported cii tfe several cases which tie had visited whd:i in toe district, and suiting his Board was pleased with the supervision and care taken in the dispensing of relief. A widow with a larje family wrote requesting assistance for some time longer, expressing the hope that were this granted she would soon be able to do without such aid.- A majority of the Council were averse to granting further assistance, considering' that sui'iicient cause had not been shown for doing so. It was resolved that ali rates unpaid on March Ist, 1909, be sued for without further notice. Instructions were given to start metal patching the roads at once.

Several applications were received for the nosition of roadman on the main road, that of Alex. Begoie's beir.g accepted. Two applications were received for the post of second carter, Jcs. Isukson being appointed. ™ It is estimated that 1.9(H) cubic yards of metal will be required to thoroughly repair the main road, it was resolved to get Thorby s road formed as far as the available funds would permit. The chairman was authorised to sign the lease of paddock from the Railway Department, Crs Jackson and Forsberg were appointed to get repairs done on Mt. Munro road west.

The overseer reported that Gundersen's bridge had been re-planked; and the timber for bridge on ronga road had been delivered on the ground, but two of the stringers were faulty, and would have to be replaced. Tne painting of bridges had been delayed owing to the painter being engaged elsewhere. Accounts amounting to £426 9s 9d were parsed for payment. At a special meeting held on January 30th, it was resolved to recommend the appointment of Thursday for the weekly half-holiday.
