A tew of the Whakatane's immigrants called at the Dunedin labour bureau in quest of employment. Some were offered labouring work, but only one consented to taking up this class 6f work, and he failed to put in an appearance again. Of two brothers, one gave his occupation as a cricket bat maker, and another as a cricket ball maker. Generally, from the point of view of physique, those who called were not such as to indicate fitness for hard manual labour. /
