' The local Rifie Volunteers will . hold a daylight parade at the Belvo- ' dere Range on Sunday, tiring for a j trophy presented by the W.fc.C.A. will commence on Thursday next, and i will conclude on 20th inst. Lieuten- j ant Hart is the handicapper. j The well-known building contrac- ! tor, Mr T. S. Arcus, of Carterton, met with a painful mishap this morning, resulting in the loss of two fingers of his left hand. Mr Arcus was engaged with a small circular saw affixed to the shsper, and turning his head away to look at other work, two of his fingers were caught and severed above the first joints, and the thumb and third finger badly cut. The Borough Council. through its Work Committee, have granted permission to the Fire Brigade to concentrate the water on Wednesdaj and Friday evenings from seven to halfpast for practice purposes. The team to represent the local Tennis Club in their match with Clareville, at Carterton, on Thursday next, as follows; Misses K., G., and D. Bootn, Mrs Davison. Misses Berrill and Lindop; Messrs Booth, Sievers, Jackson, Carmine, Hawker and Hall. EmergenciesMiss Bish, Messrs Fairbrother and Scannell.

The Ahiaruhe Handicap is the principal event.
