A PROTEST.
(To the Editor). Sir,—As a citizen of this town, I cannot let the remarks pass in the last words of the verdict of the jury at the inquest on the body of HarryThomas, namely, "Aggravated by strong drink," without slating the following facts:- At 3,30 o'clock on the Thursday, 28th—last day of the Pabdatua races—l saw Harry Thomas on business with his father, stopping at times at my house for the last five months, and he was then in a thoroughly sober state, and there was not a sign of drink upon him, and I may further tell you that all our hotelkeepers in this town are combined 3iofc to serve any person iwhatsoever when there is the least sign of drink upon them. Wherever Harry Thomas got the strong drinic from it was not in Pahiatua. By inserting this letter you will oblige.—l am, etc., JOSEPH JESSOP. Pahiatua, February 2nd. .1909.
