MINERS' COMPLAINT.

QUESTION OF MEDICAL EXAMINATION. 1 By Telegraph—Press Association. WESTPORT, January 31. 1 A mass meeting of miners in the : Westport Coal Company's employ' was held at Waimangaroi to clay. V About 250 miners from Granity and twenty from Denniston were present. Mr Hawker (President of the Dennis»ton Miners'-Union) was in the chair. The meeting was addressed by Messrs Hawker, Semple (President of the- Miners' Federation), Don, Gray (President of the Granity Minf '-era' Union), Colvin, M.P., McDiarmid, Newton, and Walker. The meeting was not open to the Press, but information was afterwards given to the Press, that after a lengthy discussion, the following resolutions were carried unanimously:—(l) That the Miners' Federation Executive be asked to meet the officers of the Westport Coal Company, and trv to get the Company to do •away with medical examinations, and failing complying with the request that the Federation be asked to arrange to get legislation passed doing away with the examinations; (2) that the Grar.ity and Denniston Medical Association be requested to have examinations discontinued; (3) that the officers of the Federation, Messrs Colvin and Morgan, be thanked for their services on behalf of the miners.
