Mr Isaac Alien, of Unper Plain, received some minor injuries and a severe shaking through a motor-car running into him while driving in Chapel Street on Saturday evening. The force of the collision caused Mr Allen to be thrown out of the vehicle he was driving.

The Engineer, Mr F. T. M. Kissel, wrote to the meeting cf tne Wairarapa South County Council on Saturday last, t^r.dering 1 his resignation, on account of having been appointed Engineer to the Selwyn County Council. The resignation was accepted on the motion of Cr Perry, who eulogised the work of Mr Kissell, while'in the Council's employ. It was decided to invite applications for the position.

A social was held on Friday night in the Nireaha Public Hall for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr Walter Mason, who is leaving the district, writes our Nireaha correspondent. The rain which had been falling on and off all day kept a great number of friends away, who would have liked to have been present. Excellent music for the dancing was provided by Mr and Mrs Hall (violin and piano, repectively), and the duties of M.C. were capably discharged by Mr F. Dohnt. Mr Alberthsen, on behalf of the settlors in the district, presented Mr Mason with a handsome gold watch-chain, and on behalf of the Nireaha Cooperative Store Cimoany, with a purse of sovereigns. Mr Mason, in a few well-chosen words, thanked his friends for the handsome presents. Mr Mason was one of the original selectors in the Stirling Block, and settled on his farm in February, 1894, and ~;is therefore one of the oldest settlers in the district. He, has taken a keen interest in all matters connected with the advancement of the district, especially wth the Co operative Store, i;f which be been a director for six vent's, and Chairman of Directors for three yeara. Mr Mason will visit friends in Wellington and Dunedin, after which he will probably settle in the Auckland district.
